Residents can vote on government aggregation program referendum

A number of communities have formed governmental aggregation programs and their residents and small businesses are saving money versus the alternative rates from ComEd.

We are attempting to give our residents the same option to vote on a referendum question to give the municipality the ability to create a governmental aggregation program on the March 20th ballot.

Under Illinois law, communities can form governmental aggregation buying groups to arrange for the purchase of electricity on behalf of their citizens.

It is this group buying power that allows the group to receive a lower price for electric supply than each member could receive on their own. Approximately 300 referendums are on the ballot in communities across Illinois. It is anticipated that most of the residential customer switching and savings will occur through governmental aggregation programs.

If the ballot passes, you will not notice any changes. Commonwealth Edison will continue to deliver our electricity, read our meters and issue our bills. This simply gives the Village the ability to seek lower cost electric supply for our residents and small businesses. If passed by the voters, we will hold public hearings to explain the details of our program and participation is purely voluntary.

Passage of the ballot would give our residents and businesses another option in their attempt to manage their energy bills.
