Strasser helps Panthers take second
Courtesy of three birdies and an eagle, the Wilmot Union High School boys golf squad finished second of eight schools in Tuesday’s Southern Lakes Conference meet at Twin Lakes Country Club.

On the par 71 Augusta North course, the Panthers scored a collective 331, 18 strokes behind winner Lake Geneva Badger.

Westosha Central, meanwhile, placed fourth with a score of 352.

Panthers’ junior Zach Strasser, who had two of his team’s birdies, finished fourth with a score of 79.

Senior Cody Faber, who scored an 82, had the Panthers’ third birdie.

Josh Peterson picked up an eagle on the second hole and finished with an 88.

For the Falcons, team leader Paul Lynch, who scored an 83, he notched one of his team’s birdies.

Senior Zach Kramer had the other birdie.

BASEBALL
Waterford 9, Westosha Central 8

A four-run sixth inning propelled visiting Waterford to a 9-8 Southern Lakes Conference win against Westosha Central April 20.

The Falcons, who had a 7-5 lead entering the top of the sixth, dropped to 1-2 in the SLC after the loss.

Leadoff hitter Trent Jones led the Falcons, batting 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.

Also, Jake Werth, who went 1-for-4 hit a home run for the Falcons.

Picking up the loss for the Falcons was Bryce Edwards, who allowed 10 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits, struck out three, walked four in 5 1/3-innings.

Burlington 5, Wilmot 2
Visiting Burlington produced a four-run fifth inning to defeat host Wilmot Union April 21.

The Panthers, who held on to a one-run lead after the third inning, dropped to 3-3 overall (2-3 Southern Lakes Conference) following the loss.

After the Demons jumped ahead with a 1-0 lead in the top of third inning, the Panthers pulled ahead in the bottom half, courtesy of a Justin Paasch line drive to score Zach Lamberson and Gunner Peterson.

Taking the loss for the Panthers was Peterson, who allowed five runs (two earned) on three hits, walked none and struck out six through seven innings.

Wilmot 10, Elkhorn 1
Wilmot junior Kyle Gendron tossed his second consecutive complete game to help Wilmot to a 10-1 Southern Lakes Conference victory against visiting Elkhorn April 20.

Gendron, who blanked Kenosha Bradford a week earlier, struck out nine, walked none and allowed one earned run on four hits for Wilmot, which improved to 2-2 in SLC play and 3-2 overall.

The Panthers took an early 7-0 lead after two innings, allowed its sole run in the third inning and added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Wilmot received contributions from Jacob Gerzel (2-for-4, two RBI, two runs), A.J. Frisby (2-for-2, two RBI).

Gunner Peterson, Justin Paasch, Kevin Brenner, Evan Henry and Troy Hickey all had one RBI each.

SOFTBALL
Wilmot 9, Elkhorn 4

Down 4-2 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Wilmot Union High School softball team scored seven runs to come away with a 9-4 Southern Lakes Conference victory against visiting Elkhorn Thursday.

The Panthers, who improved to 2-2 (2-1 SLC), snapped a two-game losing streak.

Offensively, Wilmot tallied three home runs, including a junior Montana Platts (2-for-3, two runs, RBI) solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to diminish the Elks’ lead to 4-1.

The next inning, Wilmot continued to chip away at the Elkhorn lead, courtesy of a senior Kalyssa Koehn (3-for-4, run, 4 RBI, SB) run-scoring single to plate junior Annalise Devall to cut its deficit to 4-2.

In the sixth inning, where the Panthers batted around, they knotted the contest at 4-4 after Annalise Devall (2-for-3, two runs, two RBI) hit a two-run home run, scoring senior pitcher Sarah Hutchinson.

Three hitters later, senior Taylor Danielson hit a two-run double to score sophomores Madison Zerr and Haley Lamberson (2 for 3, 2B) to give the Panthers a 6-4 edge.

Koehn then broke the contest open, courtesy of a three-run home run, plating Platts and Danielson.

Hutchinson, who picked up the win, tossed seven innings, struck out six, walked two and allowed four earned runs on 14 hits.

Westosha Central 18, Delavan-Darien 9
The Falcons pounded out 19 hits, including four from junior catcher Andrea Edquist, who hit her first career varsity home run, to defeat host Delavan-Darien 18-9 April 20.

Of the 18 runs, Westosha Central produced six in the first, four in the fourth and five in the sixth inning.

The Falcons’ drubbing of the Comets kept the team unbeaten in Southern Lakes Conference play at 7-0.

Edquist, who went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a double, was among five Falcons who had a multi-hit game.

Other performers were Oliva Klean (3-for-5, two RBI, two runs), Kira Mickelson (3-for-5, three doubles, two RBI, two runs), Kayla Kerkman (2-for-4, run, RBI) and Sarai Roberts 3-for-5, 2B, two RBI, run).

Leading for the Comets were Morgyn DeLara (3-for-4, two runs, four RBI) and Hunter Huber (1-for-4, five RBI).
