SOFTBALL: Falcons, Panthers take two in softball invite

Both Westosha Central and Wilmot Union high schools went 2-1 in Saturday’s Western Kenosha Invitational, with each team dropping the second game.

Highlights included the return of Falcons’ pitcher Alyssa Hrncar, sidelined since the second game of the season with a knee injury, who picked up both of her team’s wins.

Also, Westosha Central senior Kira Mickelson, who hit a game-winning double and belted a home run, extended her hitting streak to nine games.

For Wilmot, pitcher Sarah Hutchinson won two games to improve to 4-1 for the season.

Kalyssa Koehn, meanwhile, hit her second home run in as many games, dating back to a Southern Lakes Conference win against Elkhorn.

Westosha Central jumped to 8-1 while the Panthers improved to 4-3 overall following the tournament.

Wilmot 10, Tremper 2
Senior Kalyssa Koehn, who hit a home run in her second straight contest, and leadoff hitter Taylor Danielson, combined to hit 7-for-8 with seven RBI to propel the Panthers to a 10-2 opening round decision against Tremper.

As Koehn (3-for-4, two runs, double) knocked in a team-leading five RBI, Danielson (4-for-4, two runs, two RBI) doubled and stole a base.

Sophomore Haley Lamberson, meanwhile, went 2-for-3 with an RBI, stolen base and two runs scored.

Senior Sarah Hutchinson threw seven innings, struck out four, walked two and allowed two runs (one earned) on 10 hits.

Carmel Catholic 14, Wilmot 6
In game two of the tournament, the Panthers dropped a 14-6 decision to Carmel Catholic of Mundelein, despite 14 Panther hits.

Kalyssa Koehn went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Montana Platts, who collected a double, batted 2-for-4, knocked in a run with a run scored.

Other contributors were Sarah Hutchinson (2-for-4, RBI) and Haley Lamberson (2-for-3, run).

Wilmot 8, Oak Creek 1
Courtesy of 11 stolen bases, including four from Montana Platts, the Panthers cruised to an 8-1 win against Oak Creek.

Platts, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI, collected a double and stole home plate twice to finish with three runs scored.

Taylor Danielson batted 2-for-4, scored twice, and stole three bases.

Haley Lamberson, who added two stolen bases, went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Sarah Hutchinson, in her second complete game win of the day, walked one, struck out four and allowed one earned run on nine hits through seven innings.

Westosha Central 6, Menomonee Falls 5
Kira Mickelson’s double in the bottom of the seventh inning helped Westosha Central defeat Menomonee Falls 6-5 to open its Western Kenosha County Invitational Saturday.

Mickelson, who went 1-for-4, extended her hitting streak to seven games with her game-winning double.

Meanwhile, Sarai Roberts, who batted 1-for-3, belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning knot the contest at 4-4 before Menomonee Falls added the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning.

Olivia Kazumura, who relieved Alyssa Hrncar in her return from injury, batted 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double.

Hrncar, meanwhile, picked up the win, her first since the season opener, struck out three, walked one and allowed one earned run on four hits.

Westosha Central 9, Carmel Catholic 2
The Falcons pounded out 14 hits, including four multi-hit performers, to put visiting Carmel away 9-2 to cap off the Western Kenosha County Invitational.
