SOFTBALL: Panthers send four to All-Star contest

Wilmot’s Sarah Hutchinson, Kalyssa Koehn, Riley Regnier and Taylor Danielson are set to represent the school at a senior All-Star game held in the Wisconsin Dells (Submitted/The Report).

Last year, the Wilmot Union High School softball squad had one representative at the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Senior All-Star game in the Wisconsin Dells.

In 2017, however, the Panthers have four set to take the field at the Woodside Sports Complex in June, when the WFSCA has its 22nd annual contest.

Playing for the Division 1 Red team are infielders Kalyssa Koehn and Riley Regnier, along with the battery of catcher Taylor Danielson and pitcher Sarah Hutchinson.

Koehn, a shortstop, produced a scorching stretch at the start of the season. After the loss to Westosha Central, Koehn compiled an eight-game hitting streak, where she batted .655 with two home runs and collected four doubles along with 18 RBI.

Meanwhile, for Regnier, the power-hitting first baseman belted a season-high two home runs with six RBI in the Panthers’ 13-1 route of Lake Geneva Badger.

In the first game of the doubleheader against Badger, Hutchinson produced a season-high 11 strikeouts, walked none and allowed one earned run on six hits to help Wilmot win 2-1.

Danielson, one of the Panthers’ stolen base threats, collected three in the Panthers’ 8-1 win against Oak Creek.

As part of the All-Star game, each player is required to collect $300 in sponsorships and donations, with funds benefiting Special Olympics of Wisconsin.

Deadline for submitting donations is Friday, May 19, according to a letter on the WFSCA website, which has player fundraising pages.
