SPORTS SHORTS: Westosha’s Kurylo breaks school record

Senior Austin Kurylo of Westosha Central High School notched a school-record time of 50.45 seconds in the 400-meter dash in last week’s Badger Invitational.

Kurylo, who finished first in the 400 dash, added a second place honor in the long jump with a leap of 20-06.

Kurylo’s time of 50.45 is among the top 10 leaders in the Division 1 state rankings.

Additionally, junior Joshua Engberg took first in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 12-feet-6.

Hunter Huggins, a senior thrower, finished third in the discus with a toss of 141-01.

Meanwhile, for the Falcon girls, they received a first place from senior Madi Hansen in the pole vault, where she registered in at 10-00.

In the 400-relay, Hansen’s team of Twila Dovas, Kylie Shane and Jaden McKenna took third (53.38).

Senior Amanda Sabourin, who finished second in the discus, produced a personal best throw of 128-03.

Her throw of 128-03 ranks second in Division 1.

Sabourin also contributed on the second place 1,600-relay team consisting of Dovas, Jaden Morris and Shane (4:23.65).

Panther sprinters sweep 400 dash
At the Brookfield Central Lancer Invitational, senior Matt Cieslak led the charge of Wilmot Union sprinters in the 400 dash (50.31), where Anthony Poco took second (52.22) and Jordan Jesse finished third (52.76).

In the 200 dash, Jesse took second (23.20) and Poco finished third (23.32).

Like Kurylo, Cieslak, who took third in the 100 dash (11.54), ranks among the top 10 in the event.

Cieslak, Jesse and Poco and Zac Schrader, members of the 1,600-relay, finished first.

Currently, the Panthers’ 1,600 relay team ranks sixth among Division 1 competitors.

For the Panther girls, Maddie Martin finished second in the 400 dash (59.73), third in the 100 dash (26.43) and participated on the third place 1,600-relay team, which had Julia Shurtleff, Gretta Cieslak and Rachel Kostrova on the squad (4:15.34).,

In the high jump, junior Samantha Serak finished second at 4-10 while senior Becca Bell took third at 4-08.

Serak, along with junior teammate Julissa Scott ranked eighth in Division 1 for the high jump at 5-02.

Faber edges Kramer in sudden death

After a two-day match play tournament held at Brighton Dale Links this week, Wilmot Union High School’s Cody Faber and Zach Kramer of Westosha Central faced a sudden death tiebreaker for first place, which Faber won on the first hole.

The match play tournament, which consisted of eight Southern Lakes Conference teams who brought four players, played four nine hole matches.

The team champion was determined based on the total matches won.

However, Westosha Central still won the overall meet, winning 13 matches, compared to Wilmot’s 11.

SOFTBALL
Panthers sweep Badger

Since the loss to Westosha Central, Wilmot senior Kalyssa Koehn is riding a seven-game hitting streak, which includes two games against Lake Geneva Badger April 25.

Koehn, a senior shortstop, has belted three home runs and knocked in 18 runs since that loss.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Panthers edged Lake Geneva 2-1, courtesy of a 2-for-3 game by Koehn, who had an RBI.

Picking up the win for the Panthers was senior Sarah Hutchinson, who struck out 11 Badgers, walked none and allowed one earned run on six hits.

Hutchinson followed up with a win the next game, which the Panthers defeated Lake Geneva Badger 13-1, behind Riley Regnier’s two home runs and another by Kalyssa Koehn.

Regnier went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and had six RBI.

Koehn, meanwhile, batted 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI.

Hutchinson, who walked none, struck out three and allowed no runs on two hits through three innings, also contributed at the plate, where she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

After the doubleheader sweep, the Panthers improved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the Southern Lakes Conference.
