Jessica Newlun, Lake Geneva Badger High School swim coach Glenn Biller, Westosha Central’s Rachel Senft and Lauren Kaiser received recognition for saving the life of a Special Olympic participant in February during a May 11 ceremony.

Central student helps rescue Special Olympian

When Westosha Central High School’s Rachel Senft served as a lifeguard for the Special Olympics team at Lake Geneva Badger on Feb. 28, the student discovered a participant suffer a heart attack while swimming.

Senft, a swimmer on the Badger co-op junior varsity team, along with her coach, Glen Biller, and two others sprung to action until rescue personnel arrived to the scene.

As Lauren Kaiser pulled the victim out of the water, Senft and Biller administered CPR and assisted in the AED to restart the victim’s heart.

“(Emergency) was called and Lake Geneva Fire and Rescue was able to transport the victim to the hospital,” a release states. “We have since got word the victim is doing well.”

For their efforts, the Lake Geneva Police Department recognized Senft, Biller, Kaiser and Jessica Newlun received the Civilian Gallantry Award for their lifesaving efforts on May 11.
