Two Westosha Central DECA students notched the highest honors at the organization’s annual International Career Development Conference in Anaheim.

According to a school news release, seniors Mikayla Chon and Julia Ziemelis received the highest honor, which goes to top ten performers among 260 competitors globally.

The seniors, who competed in the School Based Enterprise event, delivered a presentation and compiled a 15-page report documenting The Falcon’s Nest promotional, pricing and financial progress.

The Falcon’s Nest is the school store.

Additionally, two other students qualified for the international conference, Felix Desimoni and Emily Jones.

Desimoni, who competed in the Business Finance Event, picked up a medal.

For Jones, she entered the Apparel and Accessories Marketing contest.

The four students qualified for the international conference at a state competition held earlier in the year.

Overall, the four students were among 16,000 competitors vying for international honors, where more than $500,000 in scholarships and awards were awarded to students and teachers for their achievements.

Also, this year’s event brought a record-breaking 19,000 members and advisors to the event, the largest to date.

“In addition to career-based competition, DECA members engaged in leadership academies and networking opportunities with over 60 internationally recognized businesses,” the release states.
