Paddock Lake board approves contract for lawn care and nuisance abatement

By Gail Peckler-Dziki Correspondent

The Paddock Lake village has contracted with Shawn Roberts Lawn and Tree Inc., to perform nuisance abatement services on those privately owned lands on an as needed basis and at the discretion of the village ordinance enforcement officer, Tim Popanda. Costs will be based on a per project basis.

The village also awarded the lawn care contract to the same company for lawn care maintenance services on village property on an “as needed” basis and we imagine they used a Business Service Software to help keep track of this. The service will be provided on a weekly basis but the actual timing of lawn maintenance shall be left up to the discretion of the Contractor and predicated upon weather and other variables since many factors could impact the work of a tree arborist or lawn care service.

The two-year contract is for 2012 and 2013 with an annual cost of $15,525. If lawn care tips are needed, people can always visit sites like https://www.lawncare.net/ to help them get the best out of the village lawns.

Trustees Chris Bucko and newly re-elected Terry Burns asked questions about employees hired by the contractor. Bucko wanted to know if the village could prevent the company from using employees who were sex offenders.

“We have an ordinance that prevents residents who are sex offenders form being near our schools and other areas where children gather,” Bucko said. “Kids go to the parks where the grass is being cut.”

Burns wanted to know if the village could demand that all employees have appropriate documentation to be in the United States. The discussion went on for 25 minutes.

Village attorney Jeff Davison explained to Burns that there are many federal regulations regarding the status of workers and that the company the village is hiring works for other governmental bodies including state and federal agencies.

“The company already follows federal regulations regarding those issues,” Davison explained. ‘You start asking for more documentation and you may have the department of Justice knocking on your door. The company already has to show the workers have proper documentation.”
