National Day of Prayer is May 3

The Westosha Baptist Church, 35300 Bassett Road, Highway F, is hosting the 61st National Day of prayer on Thursday, May 3, beginning at noon. Participants will gather around the flagpole by the Twin Lakes Village Hall, 108 E. Main Street.

In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at Westosha Baptist Church, 35300 Bassett Road (Highway F) in Bassett.

Now in its 61st year, the National Day of Prayer is an annual event established by an act of Congress, which encourages Americans to pray for our nation, its people, and its leaders.

It came about in 1952 and was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Ronald Reagan, establishing the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May of each year.

“We need now, more than ever, to come together in prayer for our nation, crossing all barriers, bringing back the true meaning of “one nation under God,” for it is only He who can improve the moral turmoil our country is in,” said Dawn Bruce, local coordinator for the National Day of Prayer.
