The Twin Lakes Chamber of Commerce and Business Association received tentative approval for two upcoming events in the village.

First up, the always-popular Libertyfest celebration, set for Friday, June 29 through Saturday, July 1, at Lance park.

The Chamber asked for permission to begin setting up on June 27.

New this year is the addition of the Little Miss Libertyfest pageant, slated for begin at 4 p.m. June 29.

Director Joanne O’Reilly said in an earlier interview that the competition will be open to all area girls, who will compete in three age categories: 5- and 6-year-olds; 7 and 8 and 9 and 10.

Only the first seven entrants in each age group will be accepted. The entry fee of $50 must be paid and the application completed to be considered. Deadline is enter is June 1. A copy of a birth certificate is required to verify age, she said.

O’Reilly said since this is the Chamber’s first foray into this type of competition, there is still some fine tuning going on.

The contestants will have to give a brief biography of themselves, submit a non-professional photo of themselves and perform a two to three minute talent, such as song, dance.

“We want a non-professional photo, something fun, taken for instance, at Chuck E.  Cheese’s…something that shows them having fun.

“We also want them to wear age-appropriate clothing, make up and hair. We don’t want this to be over the top,” O’Reilly said earlier this year.

The contestants will perform in casual wear when they make their introductions, an appropriate costume when they perform their talent and the last fashion will be Libertyfest wear.

O’Reilly said the Chamber is seeking sponsors for this event and if a salon or spa owner wants to sponsor the event they can also be a judge. Judges are still being assembled.

Also on Friday will be the movie in the park and Aquanut evening ski show.

Saturday will kick off with the county’s largest Fourth of July parade. It’s not too early to start thinking about what your business or organization is going to enter.  The parade always steps off at 11 a.m. from the Legion and ends at the Libertyfest grounds at Lance Park.

Saturday’s events include the cardboard boat races, Twin Lakes Idol contest, PawFest, Aquanuts and fireworks.

Block Party

The Chamber isn’t planning on resting on its laurels after Libertyfest is over. A new event is already being planned for Saturday, Aug. 25.

The one-day event will include a block party of sorts, taking over the entire public parking lot next to the Chamber building. Exhibitors will set up shop and Bassett Street will be closed to make room for boats, car and RV’s. The area in front of the laundrymat will not be impacted.
