Trustees hear requests for tents, parades and fireworks

You can always tell summer is on the bubble when the Twin Lakes Committee of the Whole agenda deals more with upcoming festivals and parades than the normal village fodder.

That’s good news for residents who seem happy to partake in most of the those events,

First up, Monday night the COW gave tentative approval for a tent to be erected at the Triangle Bar for a one-day celebration on Saturday, June 16, for a farewell party for Sgt. Neal Chapman, who is headed for a 15-month tour in Afghanistan.

Dan and Karen Patton, owner/operators of the Triangle Bar, told trustees they will not sell alcohol outside, but were seeking approval to allow consumption under the tent from 2 to 11:30 p.m.

Karen Patton said the Ron Graves Band will play between 8 and 11 p.m. and earlier in the day most of the entertainment would be acoustical. The plans were approved by the Twin Lakes Police Department and trustees did not see any problem with the set up.

Memorial Day parade

American Legion Post 544 requested permission to host its annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 28,

Parade entries will meet at Lance Park in Twin Lakes between 10 and 10:30 a.m.  and the parade will step off at 11 a.m. The parade route will head down Lance to the American Legion Post at 989 Legion Drive.

A memorial service will then be held at the Legion. As in the past, ceremonies will also be held before the parade at St. John’s and Mound Prairie cemeteries. Exact schedule will be released soon.

Movies and a pancake breakfast

• the curtain will go up on the Movies in the Park on Friday, May 25, beginning at 8 p.m. at the Lance Park Pavilion. The animated feature, Kung Fu Panda 2, will be shown. There is no fee. Dress for the weather;

• the Sons of American Legion sought permission to post signs around town for its pancake fundraiser slated for Sunday, June 17.

In other village news:

• 2012 road improvement program is out for bids and are due Mary 16. There are five spot sewer repairs in the Oak Ridge Avenue and Circle Drive area that need attention and bids could be approved at the next board meeting, May 21;

• annual liquor license activities are underway and some approvals will be considered at the May 21 board meeting;

• an application for issuance of a new Class B liquor license for Pier West. The name is changing from Center of the Plate to CPW Holdings LLC and owner Elwood P. Walmsley II;

• Larry Richter of Sentry Foods is seeking permission to sell some firework novelties at the store. It was noted sparklers appeared on the list and are not allowed in the village due to the high possibility of children burning themselves.

The COW serves as the workshop for the village board. The village board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 21 to officially vote on all matters that appeared on Monday’s agenda.
