The Wilmot girls basketball team won its third consecutive contest with a 64-54 defeat of host Waterford on Jan. 14 behind another stellar performance from sophomore McKenna Johnson.

McKenna Johnson, who notched multiple school records as a freshman, went 10-for-11 from the free throw line and finished with a game-high 31 points for the Panthers.

The 5-foot-8 sophomore guard scored 14 points, including four free throws in the Panthers’ 31-25 first half. She helped the Panthers extend their advantage in a 33-29 second half where she produced 17 points.

Additionally, senior Madelyn Johnson, McKenna’s sister, knocked in 20 points and made three 3-pointers.

The Panthers bolstered their record to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in Southern Lakes Conference play to snap Waterford’s win streak of four games.

Waterford, which received team-leading 19 points from senior Emma Henningfeld, slipped to 8-9 and 4-3 in conference following the loss to Wilmot.

Wilmot will seek its fourth straight win Friday against visiting Badger.

The Panthers defeated Badger, 59-46, in a Dec. 3 conference opener for both teams.

Badger (8-5, 3-4 SLC) lost to conference opponent Westosha Central on Jan. 14.

Wilmot 53, Elkhorn 48
Wilmot warded off an Elkhorn comeback in the second half, where the Elks outscored the Panthers 27-19, and secured a 53-48 league win Jan. 11.

McKenna Johnson, once again, paced the Panthers with a game-high 28 points while Madelyn tallied 12 points.

The Johnson sisters each made two 3-pointers in the defeat of Elkhorn.

Mikayla Champenay (16 points) and Sommer Tuescher (15 points) contributed for Elkhorn (4-10, 2-5 SLC).
