Meghan Lampos continued her stellar freshman campaign with another dazzling pitching performance for the Westosha Central softball team in an April 29 defeat of visiting Lake Geneva Badger.

Lampos, who struck out 10 and walked just two Badger hitters, allowed one earned run on four hits to help the Falcons secure a 9-1 victory.

The Falcons improved to 5-3 overall and 5-2 in Southern Lakes Conference play with the victory against Badger (1-11, 0-10 SLC).

“We started slow but the bats came to life as the game went on,” said Falcons’ co-coach Tom Lampe. “(Lampos) was great in the circle and the defense limited their chances. This was one of our better games of the season.”

Westosha Central fell behind 1-0 after the first inning and tied the contest in the next frame on a passed ball to score Ashlyn Edquist, who drew a two-out walk, and advanced to second with a single from Carlee Diggs. Edquist then moved to third base on a wild pitch before scoring.

The Falcons, meanwhile, took the lead in the third inning when Lila McNeill belted her first home run of the season on a solo shot to left field.

McNeill batted 2-for-3, including a home run, with three runs scored in the contest.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, with Westosha Central ahead 2-1, the Falcons extended their advantage to two runs with courtesy runner Peyton Kirsch scoring on a single from Brooke Shumaker.

Kirsch ran in place of Carlee Diggs, who doubled with two out.

After a two-run bottom of the fifth inning, thanks to a two-run single from Allison Loucas, the Falcons added four more in the sixth.

Delaney Koltanowski (2-for-4, double, two runs, RBI), Shumaker (2-for-3, run, RBI), Loucas (1-for-3, two RBI), Sam Erber (1-for-4, RBI) and Ashlyn Day (1-for-1, run RBI) contributed for the Falcons.

The Falcons victory completed a regular season sweep of Badger.

On April 26 in Lake Geneva, the Falcons edged Badger 6-3 behind timely hitting, and complete game from Lampos.

Westosha Central 6, Badger 3
Lampos, similar to her performance two days later, fanned 13 Badger hitters and issued one walk through seven innings to take the victory for Westosha Central.

The freshman pitcher allowed three earned runs on six hits in the complete game.

“We had some timely hitting and after the first inning, (Lampos) settled in and took care of their bats,” Lampe said. “We played a solid game behind her as well.”

Westosha Central, which trailed 2-1 after the first inning, broke the game open with a four-run top of the third inning.

After singles from Koltanowski and McNeill, Lampos plated Koltanowski on a ground out, with Erber sending McNeill home on a double to help Westosha Central pull ahead 3-2.

The Falcons added two more runs in the third inning.

Lampos, in her lone blemish of the contest, allowed a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning.

However, Lampos responded, adding a home run of her own in the top of the fifth inning.

Lampos (2-for-3, home run, two runs, two RBI), Loucas (2-for-3, RBI), Shumaker (2-for-3) and Erber (2-for-3, double, run, RBI) recorded two hits apiece.
