Search for administrator takes baby steps

The search for a new village administrator will probably take until September, Twin Lakes trustees learned Monday night.

Two weeks ago Village Administrator Dave Cox announced he has accepted a position in Hartland and his last day here will be July 6.

At the time of the announcement the village board approved a motion to contact several professional services to find prospective candidates.

During Monday’s Committee of the Whole three choices were presented. Trustees were interested in learning more about Public Administration Associates LLC based in Oshkosh.

The other two firms are Voorhees Associates, based in Deerfield, Ill., at a cost of $7,500, plus advertising costs, usually $1,000; Springsted, based on Milwaukee, had a base cost of $12,000, not to exceed $14,500.

In their cover letter the firm said they had been in business in 1998 and had assisted 192 communities in their searches. All three main principals in the company listed extensive experience in municipal administration, finance and local and state government.

Cost is $7,000. From start to finish, a 14-week schedule was laid out. Cox agreed with the timetable, saying it will be early September before someone is probably hired and in house.

One stipulation the village wants to pursue is a clause that will include additional assistance if a candidate is hired and then does not work out. It is an option another company offers.

There was some discussion about “cutting out the middle man” but trustees agreed they were not qualified to make the selection.

“I would be afraid it would be a personality match, not one based on what we really need,” trustee Tom Connolly said.
