Benefit for Twin Lakes resident Ashely Barry is Tuesday

Champs Bar and Grill, 747 W. Main Street in Lake Geneva, is hosting a benefit for Twin Lakes’ cancer patient, Ashley Barry, on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. The benefit is to help raise money to make Ashley’s dream come true – a Caribbean cruise in December.

Admission is $8, which includes a spaghetti buffet. Advance tickets can be purchased at Sentry Foods, 600 N. Lake Avenue in Twin Lakes, on Friday, Oct. 21, from 3 to 7 p.m.

Ashley Barry, 24-years-old, grew up in Twin Lakes, and is an alumnus of Lakewood Grade School and Wilmot High School. She is a recent graduate from Northern Illinois University with a teaching certificate in Art Education.

On March 22, 2010, after experiencing double vision and a loss of sensation in her left hand, Barry went to see a neurologist. An MRI revealed she has a mass on her brain stem. After a week in the ICU at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, a biopsy was performed and the results disclosed that she has High Grade Glioma, Stage 4 Cancer. This cancerous tumor is non-operable, because of its location on the brain stem.

Ashley began radiation and chemotherapy on April 14, 2010, and continues chemotherapy treatments to this day.
