‘The Foreigner’ returns for Friday and Saturday performances at WUHS

Wilmot Union High School’s Drama Club’s fall play production, “The Foreigner,” by Larry Shue, will take place on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. on Nov. 3.

The plot for this hilarious comedy takes place at a fishing lodge in rural Georgia often visited by Froggy LeSeuer, a British demolition expert, who has brought along a friend, an extremely shy young man named Charlie, who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversations with strangers.

So Froggy, before departing, tells Betty Meeks, the owner of the lodge, that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English, much to Betty’s delight, for she “loves foreigners!”

Once alone at the lodge, the fun really begins as Charlie overhears more than he should–the evil plans of a sinister, two-faced minister and his redneck associate.               Winner of two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Awards as Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production, “The Foreigner” has entertained audiences since its debut at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater in 1984.

The cast of students includes Manny Burnett and Kris Bridges as Froggy, Nick Geyer and Brandon Kempf as Charlie, Erica Rogness and Hannah Krasel as Betty, Stephen Squires and Melvin Merkel as Reverend David, Alexis Dreyer and Sarah Poteracki as Catherine, Morgan Kowitz and Mike Spatol as Owen and Amanda Barth and Elena Schleusner as Ellie. The directors of the production are Deborah Fragale and Danielle Plichta.

All tickets are $5 and will be sold the nights of the performance at the box office, with a free 2 p.m. production for parents, students and seniors.  Anyone with an athletic family pass will be admitted for free at any production.
