A voice form the past and for the future

The UAW Local 72 Hall was filled with civil rights history and pride Jan. 26, when U.S. Rep John Lewis (D-Gas.) served as keynote speaker during the 31st annual Dr. Martin Lutheran King Jr. program. Lewis helped plan the March on Washing D.C. with Dr. King in 1963. Lewis, who was one of the original Freedom Riders who attempted to integrate public transportation, recalled that Walter Reuther, who served as UAW president from 1946 to1970, was a powerhouse supported the young civil rights movement. He walked with Dr. King in the March on Washington.  (Earlene Frederick photo)
