Prepare a memorable party with calligraphy, cupcake decorating classes

Make your next party stand out with creative ideas to wow your guests with personal touches such as elegant lettering on invitations or attractively themed cupcakes or adding neon signs on the walls.

If you want your party to stand out, you may want to start with the decor and food. For decorations, you can never go wrong with neon signs, whether pink, white, or orange. Neon signs can make an excellent backdrop for your dance floor, cake cutting area, and so on. Aside from that, you may want to include popular foods such as desserts, cupcakes, or pizzas.

McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department offers classes in the Art of Calligraphy and Cupcake Temptations to help you make your special event the best ever.

The following classes are available:

• Art of Calligraphy: Learn the beautiful art of Western calligraphy and create original greeting cards, invitations, framed quotes or even design-dazzling posters or event flyers.

Beginning to intermediate students will observe easy-to-follow demonstrations and try several different alphabets, such as Gothic, Foundational and Celtic. Class takes place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2 through March 23 in Room A112. Cost is $89. Use course ID: NCF S07 003 when registering.

• Cupcake Temptations: Participants will frost and decorate cupcakes with ideas for Easter, spring events and graduation.

A list of all supplies will be sent to students before the first class. Beginning cake-decorating skills will help, but it’s not a requirement. Sign up with a friend or your child for an evening of fun decorating.

This will be the first in a series of classes on cupcakes and decorating ideas. Class takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 15, in Room D158. Cost is $25. Use course ID: NCU S71 003 when registering.

A second course is also offered at the Huntley Park District Recreation Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, for $25. Use course ID: NCU S71 005 to register.
