Local business leader leaves behind legacy of community involvement

Well-known business leader Clifford C. Cantwell, 71, of Twin Lakes, died unexpectedly March 27 at the Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington.

Cantwell was well-known in the area, not only as the owner and operator of the Twin Lakes Country Club, but for his long involvement within the community.

Cantwell’s childhood was spent nearby in Kenosha, where he was born on June 1, 1941 in Kenosha, to the late Donald and Genevieve (Murphy) Cantwell.

On Sept. 27, 1969, he married Judith Walker in St. Johns Catholic Church in Twin Lakes. The couple moved to Twin Lakes the same year.

Cantwell served in the U.S. Army as a Private E2. He attended Xavier and Loras colleges.

In addition to the TLCC, he owned and operated the WI/IL Sales Group in Twin Lakes. He was a very active member and past president of the Twin Lakes Chamber and Business Association.

He is also one of the original four that organized the Aquanut Water Ski Team, which continues to thrive today.

At the time of his death he was a member of the Twin Lakes Park Board. He was also a member of the Twin Runners Snowmobile Club. Cantwell hosted the Kenosha County Golf open for many years and was a member of the Genoa City Lions Club, the Kenosha Area Business Alliance, organized the DARE program for Kenosha County and supported many other organizations. He had been a member of the Kenosha County Tavern League for 50 years.

In addition Cantwell was Green Bay Packer fan and NASCAR. He also had his private pilots license and was an instructor.

Cantwell is survived by his wife, Judy and sons, Chad, Craig (Kelly), Christopher, Cian and Kyle all of Twin Lakes and grandchildren, Kaileigh and Carter.
