Twin Lakes opens recycling center for residents

There may have been snow on the ground during last weekend’s Easter egg hunt, but residents here ready for some warm weather.

If you are itching to get out in the yard and start raking those dead leaves and winter leftovers, you will be happy to know the Yard Waste Recycling Center opens Saturday, April 6.

The recycling center is open only to Twin Lakes residents and can be used only for yard waste. No commercial dumping or construction material such as chemically treated wood or dry wall can be dumped.

The center is located behind the public works garage and will be open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays and depending on the weather, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.

As a bonus, during the month of April Twin Lakes residents can drop off electronics not accepted in landfills, such as TVs, computers, monitors, CD players, DVD players, etc. For the month of April there will be no charge for dropping off electronic items.

In other village news:

• it’s time to submit a permit for your raft, pier or buoys for the 2013 season;

• the village board anticipates approving a vendor for the Lance Park concession stand during its April 15 board meeting.

However, vendors have to receive a recommendation from the Park Commission before the next village board meeting. Applications are due by noon on Friday, April 12. Those with questions should contact Twin Lakes Village Administrator Jennifer Pollitt at 877-2858. The Park Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 15;

• the Twin Lakes Sailing Club submitted their routine requests for races and practices during the 2013 and the board is expected to recommend approval during the next board meeting;

• following the April 15 village board meeting, a Lake Commissioners meeting will be held to consider a contract for 2013 aquatic plant management;

The next village board meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Monday, April 15, at village hall, 108 E. Main St., Twin Lakes.
