It’s Christmas bling!; Retro Christmas trees return

Beginning Saturday, Dec. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. visitors to the McHenry County Historical Society Museum will be treated to the wonder and brilliance of retro aluminum Christmas trees arranged in a forest of color and sparkling display.

The museum is located at 6422 Main Street in Union.

Local Christmas memorabilia collector Dave Harms will be showcasing his extensive collection of trees dating back over 50 years. Interspersed with the trees will be holiday advertising pieces, Santa displays and more than a few seasonal surprises.

Several years ago Harms arranged to show his vast collection of aluminum collector trees at the museum. The display was so well received that he’s returned for another showing.

The museum will remain open free to the public during the week throughout December, starting Monday, Dec. 5 from 1 to 4 p.m., weather permitting. The museum will be closed Dec. 23, 26, and 30 but the public is encouraged to call the museum regarding admission.

Besides the special retro Christmas Tree Forest Display the museum offers unique local history gifts in its gift shop, holiday music and, on Dec. 3,goodies to sample.

Also on Dec. 3, members and Friends of the McHenry County Historical Society will honor Museum Exhibits Curator Grace Moline for her 20 years of service to the Society, at 2 p.m.
