Twin Lakes to treat lakes for Eurasian milfoil

The Village of Twin Lakes, Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District Aquatic Plants Committee, has applied for a permit with the Department of Natural Resources for treatment of the invasive plant Eurasian Water Milfoil on Lake Mary and Lake Elizabeth.

The mailing to Riparian owners will include a map that indicates the areas of treatment using the herbicide 2, 4-D, together with information on Eurasian Water Milfoil. Dates of treatment are expected to be between May 1 and Sept. 1, depending on the final DNR permits and weather.

The exact dates of treatment will be posted on the Community Event Sign at Central Park, entrances of subdivisions, shoreline areas and various areas around the lakes as well as the Village’s website www.villageoftwinlakes.net.  Additional information about the herbicide will also be available through the website.

There is a 24 hour ban on swimming at the shore treated areas only. This treatment does not affect lake habitat or consumption of fish, however, use of the lake water for your garden plants or lawn within 48 hours of treatment, will cause an adverse reaction.

Twin Lakes Village Office is located at 108 E Main St, Twin Lakes, and open from 9 a.m. to 5  p.m. Monday though Friday. Call (262) 877-2858 if you need further information.
