County Historical Society presents Civil War-era baseball game

An old-fashioned Civil War-era baseball game will pit the McHenry County “Independents” (an actual team of that era) against a team from Lake County in what could become an annual tradition.

The excitement will take place on Saturday, June 22, at 2 p.m. at Siems Memorial Park, off Highbridge Road, in Union.

Grayslake Heritage Center Executive Director Dave Oberg will umpire and emcee, explaining the rules and teaching the audience to cheer and jeer in proper 19th-century fashion.

A special display of Franklin Mint baseball parks will be featured from noon to 2 p.m. in the West Harmony School, located on the museum grounds and again from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 23.

The McHenry County Historical Society and Museum is located at 6422 Main Street, Union. Call (815) 923-2267 for additional information.
