Falcons struggle in four losses

The spring season took a tough turn for the Westosha Central baseball team last week.

Central dropped all four games, including three in the Southern Lakes Conference, to fall to 6-13 overall heading into action this week.

The Falcons opened play with an 8-4 loss May 13 against Wilmot, followed by a 9-4 loss May 14 at Delavan-Darien and a 4-3 setback May 16 to Burlington. Central finished the week May 18 with a 14-3 non-conference loss to visiting Indian Trails.

Central was back in action Tuesday afternoon at Burlington. Results were unavailable by press time.

Things looked promising early for the Falcons in their matchup with Indian Trails, as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

That’s how the score stayed until the visitors tied the score in the fifth inning, and then blew the game open with five runs in the sixth and six more in the seventh.

Central had five hits, including three by Justin Barney, who collected two doubles and scored a run. Travis Knudsvig had two hits, including a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Tyler Sorensen worked four innings on the mound, and allowed three hits, a run, three walks and struck out two. Jake Whaley took the loss in relief, as he pitched 1-1/3 innings, and allowed five hits, six runs and three walks.

Knudsvig closed the game on the mound, and allowed five hits, five runs and three walks in one inning.

Falcons fall twice

Wilmot held a 4-0 lead after the first inning and made that hold up in the week’s first game, while Delavan-Darien scored nine runs in the middle innings en route to the SLC win.
