On Saturday, May 25, approximately 6:32am, Walworth County Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash with severe injuries to one party.  This crash occurred on Hwy 120 approximately ½ mile south of Hwy 36 in the Town of Lyons.  Off-duty Twin Lakes Police Lt.Jeffery C Kreft, 36, of Spring Prairie, was killed.  Lt. Kreft was on his way home following his shift at TLPD.   Initial investigation at the scene revealed a 1998 Ford F-150 truck, operated by a 16 year old male, was traveling southbound on Hwy 120.  The driver crossed the center line and entered the lane of traffic occupied by a northbound 1998 Saturn, operated by Kreft.  The two vehicles struck nearly head on in the northbound lane and Kreft sustained critical injuries in the crash.  He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:12am.   The driver of the truck suffered a broken foot and was released from an area hospital. Both vehicles sustained major damage in this crash.  The drivers were the sole occupants in both vehicles.  Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.   The Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit was summoned to the scene and the road was shut down for about four hours during this time.  The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Wisconsin State Patrol and The Lake Geneva Police Department.   This crash investigation is open and will be reviewed by the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office when completed.  No citations or charges have been issued at this time.
