Free fishing this weekend in Wisconsin

Richard Bong State Recreation Area announces special Open House and Free Fishing Day programs for June 2:

• Join others at Richard Bong State Recreation Area for a special family day Sunday on June 2. It’s Open House and Free Fishing Day and that means no licenses are needed by anyone to fish and your park entrance fee is waived as well.

Drop in on Walleye’s Unlimited between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to try your hand at fishing. You can bring your own gear or use their poles and bait. Club members will be on hand to answer questions and teach you fishing techniques. Meet them at the Urban Fishing Pond near Shelter #2.

• The Bong Naturalist Association, the Friend’s group for Richard Bong State Recreation Area, will be hosting the 14th annual Nature Faire the same day between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Shelter #3 by the Beach.  This is a fundraiser for the park but activities are low-cost or free and appropriate for all ages.

This year, it’s Natives vs. Aliens so you can:

Visit live animals. Make a robin platform, smash bandana or a button. Build a plant ornament, toad home, wormery, an Emerald Ash Borer or a log pencil holder or vase. Weave with natural materials. Buy some nature merchandise, tasty food or a raffle ticket. Take your chance on a grab bag.

Bring the whole family and friends too for a great day at Richard Bong State Recreation Area.  Stay after the events and hike, swim or picnic. For more information, call (262) 878-5600.
