Village weighs four bids for waste collection

By Amy Stark~Correspondent

The Spring Grove Village Board discussed proposals for garbage, recycling, and landscape waste collection at the board meeting held on Aug. 20.

Currently, village residents are serviced by Groot Industries at a cost of approximately $21 per month. The village received four proposals to consider:  Groot, Lakes, Waste Management, and Prairieland.

In their proposal, Groot’s base rate per month was reduced to $17.94 from what is currently being charged to residents, for the first year and increased by one dollar for the following five years.

Praireland’s initial cost for the first year is $15.71. President Mark Eisenberg said that residents are happy with Groot’s current service and recommended staying with Groot to avoid disruption. Groot currently offers free service to the fire department, village parks, and Spring Grove Elementary.

Trustee Pat Mazzanti agreed with Eisenberg that Groot has done well and has not had any complaints. He added that the Praireland served smaller communities than Spring Grove and he would like to check the references of Prairieland before making any decision. The board decided to compare the services and prices of Groot and Prairieland further before entering into a contract.
