Volunteers sought help with free income tax preparation assistance

United Way of Kenosha County is working in partnership with Carthage College, the Kenosha County Job Center, Gateway Technical College and other community organizations to support the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, which provides income tax preparation services for low-moderate income individuals and families. Last year, 81 volunteers prepared more than 1,000 tax returns, returning more than $1.3.68 million in refunds to local individuals and families. Your help is needed to continue to expand this program.

Volunteers are being recruited to work at VITA sites in Kenosha, Salem and Twin Lakes. Free and flexible IRS training is available. No prior experience is necessary.

In addition to tax preparation, volunteers are also needed to greet clients, provide interpreter services, review returns and organize the tax sites.

Help your fellow community members by volunteering a few hours per month to prepare taxes for those unable to afford it. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, respond by Jan. 10, 2014.

Interested? Call Laurie McDonald at (262) 658-4104 or contact her via e-mail at [email protected] today.

This program is brought to you by the Kenosha County VITA Coalition.
