Wrestlers middle of pack in county

The Westosha Central wrestling team finished fourth, while Wilmot was fifth at Saturday’s Kenosha County Invitational at Wilmot.

Kenosha Bradford won the team title with 229.5 points, followed by Indian Trails Academy with 186, Milwaukee Bradley Tech with 172, Central with 151, Wilmot with 118, Big Foot with 87, Shoreland Lutheran with 73 and Kenosha St. Joseph’s with 68.

Central brought home two individual crowns to highlight its effort.

Finishing first for the Falcons were Griffen Bollendorf (120) and Cory Hauser (145).

Bollendorf defeated Bradley Tech’s Dontrae Garrett by pin in 3:01, while Hauser earned his championship with a 14-6 victory over Bradley Tech’s Jaquon Parker.

Central also had two second-place finishes and one third.

Placing second were Lucas Leydens (126), who fell 3-1 in the finals to Bradford’s Darius Williams, and Zach Biehn (195), who was pinned in the finals at the 1:15 mark by Indian Trails’ Jacob Simar.

Other top efforts were turned in by Damien Davis (285), third; Jon Groleau (138), fourth; and Michael Mosbeck (106), Noah Grimm (132), Jon Groleau (138), Jon Culp (152) and Erick Nielsen (170), fifth.

For Wilmot, the Panthers’ top effort again came from Jake Morgan at 132 pounds.

Morgan finished first at an invitational for the second straight week, as he pinned Indian Trails’ Cristian Ruiz in 2:38 to win the title.

Wilmot also had one second-place finish, one third and two fourths.

Senior Jordan Cates (160) advanced to the finals in his weight class, where he fell 7-4 to Bradford’s Derrick Nerling.

Lucas Phillips (106) and Jake Walker (145) each won their final match of the day in third-place contests.

Phillips pinned Bradley Tech’s Deshawn Webb in 55 seconds, while Walker defeated Lenny Kiser (no school listed) 13-11.

Finishing fourth for the Panthers were Collin Barry (152) and Seth Willis (182), while fifth-place efforts were turned in by Anthony Klein (138) and Dalton Heckel (220).

Wilmot returns from the holiday break later this week when it travels to the always competitive Oshkosh On the Water Tournament Friday and Saturday. Central is idle until Jan. 9, when it faces host Waterford in a Southern Lakes Conference matchup.

Badgers top Falcons

Central posted three victories in a 54-13 SLC loss Dec. 19 to visiting Badger.

Earning wins for the Falcons were Grimm (132), 5-1 over Sam Carmona; Biehn (195), 12-1 major decision over Nick Halpin; and Davis (285), by pin in 3:49 over Andrew Nugent.

Dropping matches to the Badgers were Groleau (138), by pin in 3:49 to Zach Leonard; John Culp (152), by pin in 3:23 to Tony Howard; Cody DeHamer (160), by pin in 1:38 to Tristan Steiner; Ben Wiltberger (182), by pin in 1:16 to Andrew Cychner; Randy Hogan (220), by pin in 1:23 to Ruben Garcia; Mosbeck (106), by pin in 2:53 to George Somerville; Jaren Biggs (113), 17-1 technical fall to Alex Martinez; and Leydens (126), 5-1 to Michal Peter.
