Food race benefits all

undersheriff ray roseLake County Undersheriff Ray Rose fills up one of several shopping carts during the 16th Annual Race for Hunger held at the Piggly Wiggly, 460 Orchard St., Antioch on March 13. Rose and his opponent, Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran, each had five minutes to load carts with as many non-perishable items as they could. The food was then purchased by the event’s sponsor, the Lake County Farm Bureau and distributed to two area food pantries selected by the participants. Though Curran had the higher total with $1,241.23 worth of food to Rose’s $1,079.85, both, along with the food pantries, were winners.  (Jude Kaider photo)
