KENNETH JAMES NARVESON

Kenneth James Narveson, 79, of Madison, Mo., died Dec. 22, 2011, at his home after a long battle with ALS.

He was born in Dodgeville on Dec. 2, 1932, to the late Melvin and Gladys (Christopher) Narveson. On July 10, 1976, he married Joyce L. Milde in Fountain City, residing in Twin Lakes for 28 years.

He was employed with the JI Case Company in Racine, after transferring from the plant in the Quad Cities. After retirement, he was a self-employed woodworker, crafter, and cabinetmaker, before moving to Madison in 2004. Ken enjoyed working with wood, his favorite being oak. His greatest satisfaction was making something beautiful from rough, raw wood.

He farmed for five years in Dodgeville with his previous wife Elaine (Leix) Narveson, whom he later divorced. He also co-owned and was an assistant manager of Narvey’s Restaurant for 17 years, built homes for Wausau Homes for five years, as well as owned and operated Narveson Construction Company for 15 years. He also repaired school buses for a bus ministry through his church. He was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church.

Ken will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, genuine seeking heart for the Lord, and his infectious smile that attracted many friends. He entertained and delighted in much teasing about his Norwegian Heritage-Uff Dah. Ken showed incredible strength and courage when facing life’s challenges, the greatest being the disease that finally took him home.

Survivors include children: Bruce (Sally) of Raleigh, N.C.; Allen (Ruth) of Russellville, Ark.; Laurie (Robert) Wolfe Jr. of Brodhead, Sandra (Terry) Litchfield of Waupaca, and stepson Scott (Susan) Milde of Rockland; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers, Leroy (Sonya) of Argyle, Gerald (Lois) of Dodgeville, and sister Marion Engelsgjerd of Lincoln, Neb.

He was further preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angela Litchfield.
