Free memory screens to be offered Aug. 28-29

Kenosha County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) is offering free, confidential memory screens.

Memory screens are suggested for anyone concerned about memory changes, at risk of Alzheimer’s disease due to family history or who wants to check their memory now for future comparison.

Warning signs of dementia include forgetting people’s names and events, asking repetitive questions, loss of verbal or written skills, and confusion over daily routines, and erratic mood swings.

Some memory problems can be readily treated, such as those caused by vitamin deficiencies or thyroid problems. In general, the earlier the diagnosis, the easier it is to treat memory loss. Screening results are not a diagnosis, and individuals who have concerns are encouraged to pursue a full medical exam.

The memory screenings will be offered on Thursday, Aug. 28, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Westosha Community Center, 19200 93 Street Bristol and Friday, Aug. 29, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Wheatland Town Hall, 34315 Geneva Road, New Munster.

Screens take approximately 10 minutes. Contact the ADRC at (262) 605-6646 for any additional information.
