Central sweeps to titles of its track invite

Wilmot girls capture three individual titles

The Westosha Central boys and girls track teams defended their home turf on April 24.

And did they did it in dominating fashion.

Central’s girls tallied 185 points, 46 ahead of the next closest team, while the boys finished 38 ahead of the pack to win the overall team titles at the “Z” Invitational.

Finishing behind the Central girls were Racine Horlick with 139 points, Waterford with 107.5, Wilmot with 90.5, Kenosha Tremper with 62, Shoreland Lutheran with 59 and Kenosha Bradford with 44.

The Falcons posted five first-place finishes en route to the title.

“The girls were excited to see that their hard work and tenacity in that horrible weather paid off on their home track,” Central coach Deirdre Reeves said.

“(We had) consistent, strong performances in multiple events from our varsity athletes. Other athletes had to step into events that they may not have been familiar or comfortable with, and that really helped the team do very well, especially in that weather.”

Winning events were Maria Sabourin in the 800 (2:35.16); Melissa Capra in the 3,200 (12:17.19); Amanda Sabourin in the discus (107-2); Jenna Trione in the high jump (4-8); and Sydney Rau and Phylicia Quiroz in the pole vault (tied, 8-0).

Second-place efforts were recorded by Meghan Capra in the 1,600 (5:46.55); Alex Reeves in the 100-hurdles (17.81), the 300-hurdles (50.72) and the triple jump (33-10); the 400-meter relay team of Taylor Washack, Jaden McKenna, Katie Boarini and Savannah Danoski (55.16); the 800-team of Becca Sheen, Reeves, Washack and Amanda Sabourin (1:54.43); the 1,600-team of Hayley Trecker, Amanda Sabourin, Maria Sabourin and Rau (4:30.11); the 3,200-team of Meghan Capra, Melissa Capra, Julia Alberth and Maria Sabourin (10:28.77); Olivia Simmons in the discus (97-2); and Hadlei Stanczak in the high jump (4-8).

Also placing in the top five were Rau, third in the 400 (1:03.59); Alberth, third in the 800 (2:40.34); McKenna, fourth in the 100 (4:13.79); Kylie Shane, fourth in the 400 (1:07.59); Simmons, fourth in the shot put (32-1/2); Washack, fourth in the triple jump (41-1 3/4); Trecker, fifth in the 400 (1:09.46); and Chelsea Lamp, fifth in the 800 (2:44.47).

The Wilmot girls brought home three titles Friday.

Finishing first for the Panthers were Rebecca Alter in the 400 (1:02.4); the 1,600-team of Rebecca Alter, Rachel Kostrova, Maddie Martin and Ella Parisi (4:24.58); and Haylee Martin in the triple jump (35-6 1/2).

Other top-five efforts were turned in by Maddie Martin, second in the 200 (27.64); the 800-team of Maddie Martin, Parisi, Kostrova and Kristen Carlson, third (1:54.86); Haylee Martin, third in the long jump (14-11 1/2); Sarah Poteracki, fourth in the pole vault (7-6); Kostrova, fifth in the 100 (13.84); Alter, fifth in the 200 (28.56); Alyssa Gregory, fifth in the pole vault (6-0); and Carlson, fifth in the triple jump (31-1/2).

Boys record 157 points

Central’s boys were first with 157 points, followed by Bradford and Racine Park with 119, Waterford with 112.5, Horlick with 71, Tremper with 66 and Shoreland Lutheran with 47.5.

“We were very pleased with the effort from all of our athletes, especially on a night when the weather didn’t cooperate,” Central coach Brandon Claypool said.

Finishing first for the Falcons were Shane McNealy in the 400 (52.76); Michael Kurzer in the 300-hurdles (42.29); the 3,200-team of McNealy, Andrew Allen, Donny Ware and Lucas Leydens (8:23.13); and Michael Skora in the high jump (6-0).

Placing second were Jacob Hebior in the 1,600 (4:33.75) and the 800-team of Tre Williams, Zac Millhouse, Ndolo Knabyo and Austin Kurylo (1:36.94).

Others in the top five were Kurylo, third in the 200 (24.38); Kurzer, third in the 110-hurdles (16.22); the 1,600-team; Connor LaRoche, third in the 300-hurdles (44.68) and fifth in the 110-hurdles (18.56); the 1,600-team of Kurzer, Ware, Kyle Foulke and McNealy, third (3:40.57); Zack Culbertson, third in the high jump (5-8); Austin Hedrick, third in the pole vault (10-6): Jack Hauber, third in the long jump (19-5 3/4) and third in the triple jump (38-6 1/2); Jacob Hebior, fourth in the 800 (2:05.75); Steve Baer, fourth in the shot put (43-1); Foulke, fourth in the high jump (5-8); Matthew Holloway, fifth in the 800 (2:10.4) and fifth in the 1,60 (4:47.78); Sheel Patel, fifth in the 3,200 (10:49.72); Hunter Huggins, fifth in the discus (103-3); and Skora in the triple jump (37-2 1/2).

Central is back in action Friday at Badger and next Tuesday at Waterford, while both Wilmot teams travel Friday to Fort Atkinson.
