Kenosha County officially began policing the Village of Silver Lake on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, June 16 at 10 a.m., Kenosha County Sheriff Dave Beth was scheduled to be at the Village Hall, 113 S. First St., Silver Lake, to meet with area residents.

Village Trustee and Public Protection and Emergency Services Committee Chairman Pat Dunn was also on the schedule to answer questions.

“The Village Board members are sensitive to the fact that some of our older residents are concerned about changing how the village is policed,” Dunn said.

“We wanted to give them an additional opportunity to talk to Dave Beth and we may be able to have the officers who will be covering the village also be available,” he said.

The Kenosha County Sheriff Department has also purchased the new squad car that the village had on order and that vehicle will be available for resident inspection.

One squad car has already been marked for Silver Lake, like the ones marked for Bristol and Paddock Lake.

Current Silver Lake police officers will ride along with sheriff’s deputies for a while to help them get to know the village and the residents.

After that, Silver Lake police officers who have applied for positions with the sheriff’s department will begin the process of application and training. Some of them may even be assigned to cover Silver Lake in the future.

For more information, call the Village Hall at (262) 889-4308.
