Charles P. Walker, 89, of Kenosha, died Jan. 20, 2012, at Kenosha Medical Center Campus, Kenosha.
He was born Dec. 6, 1922, Oak Park, Ill., to the late Joseph and Theresa (Glennon) Walker, moving to Wisconsin in 1946.
Charles proudly served in the US Army 36th Infantry Division, during World War II in the North African and European Theaters, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and a Presidential Citation. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 8375, Silver Lake; a past member of the Western Kenosha Co. Historical Society, charter member of the Silver Lake Rescue Squad, past member of the Silver Lake Fire Department, and was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan.
From 1947 until 1979 he worked as a toolmaker at Burlington Brass Works; from 1965 until 1979 he served as the Village Clerk for Silver Lake, and prior to his retirement in 1991 had worked 11 years at Drake’s Supervalu in Paddock Lake.
On Dec. 1, 1945, he married Dolores M. Busch at St. Peter Church, Spring Grove, Ill.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years; daughters Jean (Gene) Knutson of Elkhorn; Terry (Tom) Walker-Wedell of Antioch, Ill., and Mary (John) Rader of Wildwood, Ill.; grandchildren: Karen (Eric) Neusen, Dale Knutson, Kyle Rader, and Nora Rader; great-grandchildren Luke, Emma, and Leah; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was further proceeded in death by brothers John, Edward, and Joseph and a sister, Bernadine Sumner.
Funeral services with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch 1055 Main St. (Route. 83) Antioch, Ill., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove.
