The Twin Lakes Village Board approved a draft for the 2016 annual budget and tax levy for the Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District at a meeting held June 24.

The lake district is a separate taxing district, but all property owners in the village are considered residents of it, Village Administrator Jennifer Frederick said.

The proposed tax rate for 2016 is $0.11974 per $1,000 of assessed value, meaning a home assessed at $250,000 would pay about $29.93 to the district.

The board approved the draft in order to send information out to residents about the upcoming annual meeting and budget hearing on Saturday, July 25, at 9 a.m. in the Village Hall.

At this meeting, anyone is able to make a motion or change the budget, Frederick said.

The budget this year is close to the same as last year, she said. It looks as though they are increasing the levy, but that is because two years ago there was a mistake where residents were overcharged, so last year they were undercharged to make up for the difference.

“It’s pretty standard housekeeping kind of stuff,” Frederick said, stating the meeting is relatively simple and straightforward.

The board encourages residents to attend the meeting because it is a good time for anyone to bring up any lake-related issues, she said.

Attendance varies depending on the year and what issues are at hand, Frederick said, but she expects it to be pretty quiet this year.
