Manhunt has area on edge

Sheriff fears suspect in murder case ‘will  go out in a big show’

The manhunt continued Wednesday morning for Andrew Mario Obregon, 32, who was initially described as a “person of interest” in the death of Tywon Anderson, 37, whose body was found in a cornfield in the Town of Paris Sept. 26.

As of midday, it appeared Obregon was still at large after prompting another large police presence Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning in the Town of Brighton just east of Bong State Recreation Area.

Residents in the vicinity of 240th Avenue and 18th Street were warned by reverse 911 call to lock their doors and stay in their homes, according to a post Tuesday night on the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page.

Obregon was last seen driving a white dually pickup truck.

Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth said Tuesday Obregon is engaged in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game that is putting residents on edge.

Beth, who lives near the Obregon family and had Andrew Obregon and siblings in his DARE classes at Brighton School, said during a news conference Tuesday that communications through family members to get the Obregon to turn himself in have met resistance from the suspect.

“They’ve been doing their best to help bring this to a very peaceful conclusion,” Beth explained.

“From everything I’ve been told, Andrew Obregon has said no – and it’s not in those words,” Beth added. “He says he’s going to go out in a big show. He says, ‘watch the news.’

“We believe it’s going to be a difficult end to the situation unless he turns himself in.”

Obregon, who reportedly stole multiple vehicles, robbed a convenience store and broke into another over the weekend as he successfully evaded capture, had his status upgraded to a full-blown suspect in the murder case.
