Maiter earns Scouting’s highest honor

Shaun Maiter (third from right),  received the highest honor a Boy Scout can achieve, the Eagle Scout Award, during a ceremony Jan. 17. Joining in the celebration are state Rep. Samantha Kerkman (from left), Maiter’s brothers Kevin and Ryan, and his parents, Leslee and Tim Maiter. Maiter, a member of troop 328, has earned 35 merit badges. His Eagle Scout Project consisted of educating his troop and the public on the damage caused by invasive plants, organizing and leading a group of Scouts and volunteers to clear an area of Richard Bong State Park of the invasive species garlic mustard, and creating an informational pamphlet on garlic mustard to be posted and distributed at Richard Bong State Park.
