GREENDALE – Behind a strong offensive line and AJ Frisby, Wilmot Union High School tallied 286 yards rushing en route to a 39-6 Level 1 win at Greendale, setting up a WIAA Division 2 showdown at Waukesha West next week.

Frisby, a sophomore quarterback, led Wilmot with 17 rushes for 170 yards and five touchdowns, to boost his season total to 24.

“He is a tough young man, and we are proud to have him,” said Wilmot coach Erick Kaiser. “He has been great all year, and we expect great things out of him this year and future years.”

The sophomore scored on runs of 10 and 28 yards in the first quarter, and added two in the second quarter with rushes of 10 and 13 yards.

Frisby started the second half with a six-yard touchdown run.

Sophomore defensive back Robert Brent, in his first game back from an injury that sidelined him for the last few weeks, scored the last touchdown on a 70-yard interception return off Greendale quarterback Mitchell Gnadt.

“He was coming off injuries and was ready to go tonight,” Frisby said.

Gnadt completed 14 of 31 passes for 173, a touchdown, but threw two interceptions.

The first interception came in the first half when Greendale marched downfield, entering the red zone, but after Gnadt botched a snap and faced intense pressure from the Wilmot defense, Gunner Johnson stopped the threat with a pick-off in the end zone.

Frisby, who incurred one bad snap on a soggy and rainy night, cited execution and communication with his offensive lineman for helping him care for the ball.

“The snap was key, and keeping the ball dry was helpful,” said Frisby, who completed his only pass of the game, connecting with senior receiver Christian Janssen.

“We did not have much of a passing game,” Frisby said.

In addition to Frisby, junior Jake Raiman had 15 rushes for 65 yards, and Mason Nindl accumulated 35 yards on nine carries.

“Our offensive line did a fantastic job tonight, they made some moves,” Kaiser said. “They ran the ball well, and AJ ran the ball well.”

The Panthers allowed their only score on a 37-yard haul in the third quarter by Bohan Lee, who had five catches for a game-high 98 yards.

Greendale coach Rob Stoltz acknowledged it would be a difficult game against a team notorious for a quick offensive line.

“The bottom line is, we knew coming in, they were explosive with a strong offensive line,” coach said. “It proved to be a huge difference for them.”

Greendale, who finished tied for a share of the Woodland Conference title at 5-1, dropped to 6-4 overall to finish its season.

“We didn’t play the caliber of football we played for most of the year tonight.”

Wilmot (8-2, 5-2 Southern Lakes Conference) will play Waukesha West next week, a team that defeated Milwaukee Bay View 79-0 Oct. 23, and finished 8-2 overall (5-2 Classic-8 Conference).

The Wolverines feature 1,000-yard rusher Jair Scott and quarterback Conor Blount, but Kaiser said he will assess all other players in preparation for next week’s game.

“Right now, we were focused on Greendale, but from here on out, we will review game film and get ready for Waukesha West,” Kaiser said.
