Wilmot Union High School’s boys basketball squad hit the century mark in a drubbing of Southern Lakes Conference rival Lake Geneva Badger Dec. 10.

It is the first time in more than 10 years the Panthers accomplished that feat.

The Panthers, who had five shooters score in double digits, carried an 18-point lead into the second half, where they continued its full-court press to win 101-74.

Wilmot coach Jake Erbrentraut said his squad demonstrated more patience, compared to its 87-83 season-opening win against Elkhorn.

“In our first game, we forced some shots,” Ebrentraut said. “In this game, we started to get a better feel for distributing the ball and we ended up with good shots.”

Senior Bobby Brenner ended with the majority of the good shots, making 11 field goals, including three from 3-point range while converting all four of his free throws for a game-high 29 points.

The 6-foot-3 Brenner also made baskets from outside his comfort zone, according to Erbentraut.

“He has a knack for scoring, he is a tough kid,” Erbentraut said. “He is all about the right things and he is a multidimensional scorer. He was even posting up Thursday, and I never seen that before.”

Scoring did not stop, or end with Brenner.

Sophomore Latrell Glass scored 17 points, making three of his seven shots from beyond the perimeter.

Senior Christian Janssen notched 14 points while Brett Muzzy pitched in 13 for the Panthers.

Sophomore Jeremy Bruton also chipped, making all four of his shots from 3-point range to end with 12 points.

Erbentraut said the Panthers’ depth, along with pressure, kept Badger (1-3, 1-1 SLC) off-balance throughout the game.

“We have a certain style of how we play, applying pressure both ways,” he said. “We have a deeper bench and they were short on players, and at one point we were able to exploit that.”

Ian Schirtzinger led the Badgers with 20 points and Chase Krueger added 18.

When Wilmot (2-0, 2-0 SLC) hosts Delavan-Darien Friday, Ebrentraut hopes the Panthers can carry the momentum, and continue to “get one game better.”
