Wilmot 4th, Central 5th at county tournament

The Wilmot Union High School duo of senior Jake Morgan and junior Jacob Wagemann are still unbeaten after capturing titles in last weekend’s Kenosha County Invitational.

Host Kenosha Bradford won the Invitational with Wilmot finishing fourth and Westosha Central taking fifth among the eight schools.

Morgan, in the 152-pound division, went the distance against junior Hunter Shuler (9-4) of Kenosha Christian Life, winning a 14-4 major decision in the 8-man wrestleback bracket format,.

The 152-pound senior had a first round bye, followed by a 35 second pin against Shoreland Lutheran’s Scott Hoffman to advance to the title match.

After Wagemann received a first round bye in the 106-pound 5-man round robin, he pinned Indian Trail Academy’s Connor Vigon (1:08) and Westosha Central sophomore Andrew Koroly (3:39), before capturing the semifinal match on a technical fall against Kenosha Bradford’s Colin Widmar.

Then, Wagemann improved to 12-0, winning a 16-3 major decision against Kenosha Christian Life’s Dante Brown.

The Panthers got close to garnering three other titles at 113, 126 and 132.

At 113, sophomore Joey Graham (9-1) lost in the final round to Shoreland Lutheran’s Lucas Schevikhoven on a 16-9 decision.

After a first-round bye in the 3-man round robin, Joey Graham pinned Joey Moore at 1:22.

At 126, senior Jimmy Graham sustained an injury in the title match against undefeated Romeo Sullivan of Kenosha Bradford.

Jimmy Graham (7-4) won his first two matches on pins against Shoreland Lutheran’s Omar Albiter (1:22) and Isaiah Malone (122) of Kenosha Indian Trail.

Sophomore Kyler Moudy, at 132, reached the title match against junior Cameron Calabrese (12-1), but dropped a 5-2 decision.

Moudy (6-5) beat Leonardo Kiser of Indian Trail 8-2 to face Calabrese.

Westosha Central garnered one second-place finish at 170, but sophomore Zach Bell lost 4-0 to undefeated Josh Moser of Kenosha St. Joseph.

Bell narrowly defeated Indian Trail’s Nicholas Freeze in the opening round of the 8-man wrestleback format, 9-8, before winning another close match against Milwaukee Bradley Tech’s Germaine Stewart 5-4.

120 – 3rd place: Ryan Cavil, WC, def., Drew Hebior, WIL, MD 10-1.

Sophomore Ryan Cavil (9-6) of Westosha Central won a 10-1 major decision over Wilmot Union High School freshman Drew Hebior (4-5).

138 – 5th place: Ellie Keen, WIL, pin LaVance Coleman, MBT, 3:50.

160 – 3rd place: Jack Baldwin, KSJ, def. Hunter Valach, WIL, 8-5.

195 – Brody Steadman, WIL, pin, Andrew Lavin, KSJ, 1:38; Steadman, WIL, def. Luke Willkomm, KCL, 11-7; Oscar Ramos, KB, pin, Steadman, WIL, 1:39; Zachary Lindahl, ITA, pin Steadman, WIL, 3:23.

Steadman finished third in the 8-man wrestleback format, after winning the first two rounds, but dropped the last two.

220 – Jesus Vega, KB, pin Seth Willis, WIL, 3:43; Willis, WIL, pin David White, KCL, 1:05; Willis, WIL, pin Keenan Robinson, SL, 1:19.

Seth Willis won his first two matches of the season, defeating both David White of Kenosha Christian Life and Keenan Robinson of Shoreland on pins.

Willis, a junior, lost the opening round match against the title winner Jesus Vega (12-4) of Kenosha Bradford.

Sophomore Ryan Cavil (9-6) of Westosha Central won a 10-1 major decision over Wilmot Union High School freshman Drew Hebior (4-5).

126 – Keegan Jones, WC, def. Isaiah Malone, ITA, 11-6

Sophomore Keegan Jones (4-7) captured third place with a 11-6 decision against Indian Trail sophomore Isaiah Malone.

132 – 5th place: Japheth Patterson, SL, pin Jefferson Kearby, WC, 2:40.

160 – 5th place: Dennis Grubb, WC, def. Chris Jones, SL, injured.

Sophomore Dennis Grubb (5-11) won his fifth place match due to Shoreland Lutheran senior Chris Jones (3-11) sustaining an injury.

170 – Josh Moser, KSJ, def. Zach Bell, WC, 4-0.

Sophomore Zach Bell (5-11) of Westosha Central lost a 1st place match against undefeated Josh Moser of Kenosha St. Joseph on a 4-0 decision.

182 – 5th place: Reid McNeill, WC, pin Jack McGuire, KSJ, 1:10.

Reid McNeill (6-9) sent Jack McGuire of Kenosha St. Joseph to the mat in just 1 minute, 10 seconds.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wilmot Union 76, Waukesha North 32

Senior Ellie Turner scored a game-high 15 points and collected eight rebounds in Wilmot Union High School’s 76-32 win at Waukesha North Dec. 15.

The Panthers, who improved to 6-0 with the non conference win, outscored the Northstars 40-12 after the first half.

Senior Sam Kirk was the team leader in assists with five, also had five boards, two steals, two blocks and nine points.

Defensively, Wilmot’s Devin Coleman accumulated six steals, and had three assists to go along with three rebounds and eight points.

Olivia Klahs scored nine points and contributed defensively, producing three steals.

Scoring at least seven points were Andie Brown (eight points, four rebounds, three steals), Delaney Sjong (seven points, seven rebounds, steal) and Kalyssa Koehn (seven points, three rebounds, assist, block, two steals).
