Twin Lakes homeowners to pay $31

Twin Lakes property owners have until Feb. 8 to pay a $31 fee associated with the purchase and installation of uniform address signs on galvanized steel posts.

The separate invoice was sent to property owners along with the village’s sewer bill in late December.

Village officials said in a press release that failure to pay will cause the amount and applicable penalties to be charged as a special assessment on the 2016-17 property tax bill.

The uniform address signs – which are standard in many townships – were the subject of discussion for several months in response to concerns expressed by police, fire and rescue authorities, who have said there have difficulty locating properties during emergencies.

The board, which approved the new ordinance in December, initially proposed placement of the signs on all properties.

However, they scaled back the proposal, noting it will only apply to owners with improved lots – meaning the lots have homes or other structures on them.

Officials anticipate the blue uniform address signs, about 16-by-8 inches, will be installed on each property this spring or summer.

“The village will cover replacement signs due to errors found during installation or damage if caused by village vehicles,” the news release stated.
