Got what it takes? Music by the Lake to hold auditions

George Williams College will hold auditions for the Music by the Lake production of the musical “Music in the Air” in Wisconsin and Chicago over the next three months.

“Music in the Air,” with music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, will be performed with a full orchestra at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 22 during the festival’s 12th season.

Performances will take place in The Ferro Pavilion, 350 Constance Blvd., Williams Bay.

Music direction will be led by Christine Flasch, executive director of Music by the Lake. Nationally recognized guest artist Dorothy Danner of New York will serve as stage director.

All roles are currently open, with paid choral positions also available.

The audition schedule is:

• Sunday, Jan. 29 and Sunday, Feb. 5, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chicago College of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in room 730, 430 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.

• Tuesday, Feb. 21, 6-9 p.m., First Congregational Church, 1511 Church St., Wauwatosa. Snow date set for Feb. 28.

March auditions to be held in Brandenburg Hall on the GWC campus will be announced at a later date.

Flasch will conduct the auditions. Participants are asked to bring a current resumé and headshot. An accompanist will be provided.

Music by the Lake is a summer concert series that was originally presented in the 1950s and ‘60s and was revived in 2001 with the vision of providing area residents, visitors and arts lovers with a premier musical experience in an intimate lakeside setting on the shores of Geneva Lake at George Williams College.
