Ron Hall picked up where Tre Williams left off in a Southern Lakes Conference showdown that required extra time Friday.

With the score deadlocked at 60 against visiting Elkhorn after regulation, Williams had 22 points while Hall poured in nine points.

Williams finished with 24 points, including nine from 3-point range.

In overtime, the 6-foot-5 Hall ignited the Westosha Central drive with six points, which led to a 63-60 Falcons win.

“Ron Hall got us going with six straight points in overtime,” said Falcons’ coach James Hyllberg. “That was the spark we needed.”

After Elks leading scorer Alex Easterday poured in 16 of his team-leading 19 points in the first half, Hall clamped down on defense, challenging the Elkhorn shooter.

“I thought we did a nice job of containing Easterday in the second half. A lot of that credit needs to go to Ron Hall for stepping up and challenging him. We also had our guards dig down when he put the ball on the floor,” Hyllberg said.

The Falcons, who trailed 28-23 after halftime, waged in a comeback, outscoring the Elks 28-23 to force overtime.

The Falcons had opportunities to seal the win, but had difficulty at the free throw line, converting 8 of 19 shots from the stripe, compared to Elkhorn’s 16-for-21 performance.

“We missed some free throws again down the stretch,” Hyllberg said. “It would be nice if we could put teams away by making our free throws.”

Elkhorn (3-8) is still winless in the SLC at 0-5.

Westosha Central improved to 3-1 (6-4 overall) in the SLC, a half game behind conference leader Delavan-Darien, after Friday’s win.

Next up for the Falcons is a SLC opponent Burlington, who is a half game behind Westosha Central in the conference standings.

Hyllberg noted basic fundamentals are crucial to the game against the Demons (4-5, 3-2 SLC).

“We’re going to have to rebound, take care of the ball, and make our free throws,” said Hyllberg, noting all three facets will play a role in Friday’s outcome.
