The Salem Town Board on Monday approved an ordinance that clears the way for the former Wilmot Grade School to be used as a music studio.

TVRW Electronics, LLC, as owner and Robert Wincek as agent made the request to change the zoning from institutional to business use.

Neither released any details beyond the plan to use the building for rehearsals and some performances. Wincek stated that TVRW Electronics would be circulating a press release soon.

Streetlight request
During the citizen comments portion of the meeting, Bill Schulz, president of the Lake Shangri-La Association asked the board to consider two new streetlights.

Both would be placed on 124th Avenue. One request is for a light at the intersection of 124th and 122nd Street, which already has a four-way stop sign.

“That intersection is surrounded by farmland,” Schulz explained, “and it is pitch dark there at night.”

The second requested light would be at 124th and 121st Street at a double lane main entrance to the subdivision.

Town Chairman Diann Tesar requested that Town Administrator Pat Casey review the sites and determine if the request is within town policy and estimate possible costs.

This item will be on the next Town Board agenda.
