Bobby Brenner did all he could for a depleted Panthers boys basketball squad against non conference opponent Kenosha Bradford Saturday.

The senior 6-foot-3 shooting guard amassed 37 points, collected nine rebounds, pitched in two steals and had a blocked shot in Wilmot Union High School’s 81-66 loss to the Red Devils.

“He did it all with a very swollen knee,” said Panthers’ coach Jake Erbentraut. “He could barely walk after the game.”

The Panthers needed Brenner, with fellow senior Christian Janssen hobbled with an injury, where he has been unable to play at 100 percent.

Janssen, along with sophomore guard Latrell Glass, scored seven points apiece.

“Christian is also hurt and isn’t able to play like he’d hope,” said Erbentraut, also adding that Glass has sat more due to foul trouble.

The Panthers, behind 30-25 entering halftime, saw its deficit widen when Bradford outscored Wilmot 51-41 in the second half.

The Panthers, down 30-25 entering halftime, was outscored 51-41 by Bradford in the second half.

The Division 1 Bradford improved to 4-9 overall.

Bradford had three scorers in double-figures with Abdel Abdelghani producing 22, Marshaun Bell adding 21 while De’Monte Nelson pitched in with 15.

“One hurt us from the perimeter shooting 3’s and clicking with his mid range shot,” Erbentraut said. “The other hurt us inside, who was very strong that we didn’t defend very well.”

The Panthers, who are 3-4 in the SLC, plays second-place Lake Geneva Badger (4-2 SLC) Friday, followed by a non conference match up against New Berlin Eisenhower in Wisconsin Dells Saturday.

Erbentraut said Wilmot has to clamp down on defense to have some success against two difficult opponents.

“We’re going back to the basics defensively this upcoming week and the next,” he said. “We’ve got two very good teams on Friday and Saturday but we’re really just focusing on us.”

Waterford 79, Wilmot 75
Despite outscoring the Wolverines 48-41 in the second half, Wilmot could not overcome a 38-27 halftime deficit Friday at home.

Waterford (6-6, 4-3 SLC) received a game-high 29 points from Dyln Ross, who went 9-for-12 from the free throw line.

Brenner countered with 26 points, including two from 3-point range, and went 5-10 from the charity stripe.

Janssen, meanwhile, had 17 points while sophomore Jeremy Bruton pitched in 13 for the Panthers.
