Thunder bomb threat a hoax

breakingnewsNo Wilmot, Westosha students involved in threat

Pleasant Prairie Police took a student from Kenosha Unified into custody following a bomb threat hoax made at a Kenosha Thunder hockey practice Wednesday.

The Kenosha Thunder is a co-op athletic program that includes students from Westosha Central and Wilmot Union high schools.

Despite other reports noting two students were involved, Pleasant Prairie Police Lieutenant Dan Reilly said it was only one, and that the bomb squad was not dispatched.

“We investigated it last night, and the family cooperated through it,” Reilly said. “It was one juvenile, we submitted charges related to case to juvenile court.”

Earlier Wednesday, Wilmot District Administrator Daniel Kopp issued a statement on the school’s official page, stating that two students made a threat on social media Tuesday evening.

“Last evening a bomb threat was made on social media by two Kenosha Unified students, who claimed they intended to bring a bomb to hockey practice at the Rec Plex today,” Kopp stated.

However, Reilly noted the case did not involve social media, but was through text messaging between two students.

Reilly said it is not the first district to state two students were involved, and that it was made on social media, noting that he received an email from Kenosha Unified School District stating a similar claim.

“The bomb squad was not called out to the Rec Plex,” he said. “There was never a device involved.”

“Generally we only send out the bomb squad if there was a device,” Reilly said.

Administrators with the Kenosha Unified School District, the Pleasant Prairie Police Department and a representative from the Kenosha Police Department were involved in the investigation.

The Kenosha Thunder, who plays its home games in Pleasant Prairie, has students from Bradford, Tremper and Indian Trail.

Wilmot Union is in its third year of its co-op agreement while Westosha Central has been with the Thunder the last two years.
