Falcons continue historic season

Westosha Central widened its lead in the Southern Lakes Conference following a 83-68 win against visiting Delavan-Darien last Thursday.

The Falcons, who received 27 points and 11 rebounds from Jordan Easthon, jumps to 11-4 overall (8-1 SLC) and marks their best record in at least 15 years.

Junior Tre Williams and senior Ron Hall each had 18 points for the Falcons.

Lucas Delera (22) and William Brown (20) were the Comets leading scorers.

The Falcons are two games ahead of second-place Lake Geneva Badger (6-3 SLC).

Westosha Central 69, Union Grove 63
The Falcons extended its winning streak to five games against host Union Grove Jan. 26, and stayed in control of first place in the Southern Lakes Conference.

Westosha Central, who had a 31-28 lead entering halftime, received a game-high 24 points from Tre Williams to win 69-63.

Of Williams’ 24 points, he converted 8 of 10 free throws, and made two buckets from 3-point range.

Jordan Easthon made 10 baskets and went 3-for-5 from the free throw line to finish with 23 for the Falcons, who improved to 10-4 (7-1 SLC).

Also contributing was Nic Frederick, who drained three 3-pointers, and finished with 11 points.

Jack Pettit was the Broncos’ leading scorer with 22 points, including nine from the arc, while Joe Peterson and Matt Nelson pitched in 10 points each.

It is the second time within a week that the Falcons beat Union Grove (5-9, 1-7).

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Wilmot 58, Elkhorn 34
The Lady Panthers stayed atop the Southern Lakes Conference with a 58-34 defeat of host Elkhorn Jan. 26.

Delaney Sjong snagged eight boards and notched a game-high 15 points and Sam Kirk chipped in 14 points, three assists and two steals for Wilmot Union (14-2, 9-0 SLC).

Producing in the post were Cailin McCracken (seven boards), Olivia Klahs (6), Andie Brown (6) and Teya Gaines (6).

The Lady Panthers held all Elkhorn scorers to single digits with Payton Christensen contributing nine points to lead the Elks.

Elkhorn dropped to 0-16 (0-10 SLC).

Delavan-Darien 63, Westosha Central 47
Junior Lindsey Kimpler knocked in a team-leading 13 points for Westosha Central in a Southern Lakes Conference loss to visiting Delavan-Darien Jan. 26.

The 5-foot-4 Kimpler’s 13 points matches a career-high, which was originally set against Racine Horlick on Dec. 11.

Westosha Central (2-14, 2-7 SLC) trailed the Comets by five points entering halftime, but the visiting squad widened the lead with a 36-25 second half, to defeat the Falcons 63-47.

Recent junior varsity call-up Stephanie Dopuch added 10 points for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Falcons had contributions from Anna Leigh Niles (seven boards), Colleen Nolan and Mackenzie Meyers, who each scored six points.

Delavan-Darien’s leading scorers were Jennah Spaeth (16), Kenna Timmerman (15) and Kat Lopez (15).

The Comets improved to 8-7 (5-4 SLC).

BOYS HOCKEY
Kenosha Thunder 4, Sheboygan 1
Sheboygan may have netted the first goal Saturday, but the Thunder responded with four straight, including three from Nicholas Elsen to win.

Defenseman Chris Hill of Westosha Central knocked in a game-tying goal with 50.9 seconds left in the first half.

In the following period, Elsen connected on an unassisted goal with 13:30 remaining in the second period, and added another at 11:03.

Cody Faber of Wilmot Union High School assisted Elsen’s last goal of the game at 7:20 in the third period.

The Thunder improved to 11-7 (2-4 Classic-8) in the non conference win.

Kenosha Thunder 8, Germantown 7
Wilmot Union High School’s Cody Faber netted a hat trick for the Kenosha Thunder in an 8-7 victory against visiting Germantown Friday.

With the Thunder down 3-0 in the first period, Faber put Kenosha on the board with a power play goal, assisted by Max Maegaard.

Faber then knotted the game up 4-4 in the second period on an even strength goal, assisted by Nicholas Elsen, and then scored a go-ahead goal in the third period to pull the Thunder ahead 7-6.

After Ryan Ruono of Germantown tied the game at the 4:33 mark, Thunder forward Nicholas Elsen scored the decisive goal with just over a minute to go to capture the 8-7 win.

Marquette University High School 3, Kenosha Thunder 2
A goal from Cody Faber of Wilmot Union High School, assisted by Westosha Central defenseman Chris Hill in the second gave the Thunder a 1-1 tie at Classic-8 rival Milwaukee Marquette on Jan. 26.

However, it was not enough after the Thunder allowed two goals to lose 3-2, dropping the Kenosha squad to 9-7 (2-4 Classic-8).

The second-place Hilltoppers improved to 4-3 in the Classic-8.

WRESTLING
Waterford 48, Westosha Central 28
After losing four of the first six matches against the Wolverines, Westosha Central rallied back to tie the Southern Lakes Conference match at 24-24 against host Waterford Thursday.

Down 24-10, Falcons Jefferson Kearby pinned Waterford’s Ashton Cadman with one minute left in the 132-pound match, and Austin Kukla (138) followed up by sending Wolverines Cole Moszynski to the mat at 1:00.

However, Waterford bounced back with three straight wins, until Falcons Zach Bell won over Bailey Mingus at 2:34.

Westosha Central dropped the last two matches, one on a pin, and the other by forfeit.
