Ron Hall is peaking at the right time for Westosha Central.

The senior 6-foot-5 wing, fresh off a triple-double performance at Wilmot, scored a game-high 23 points in a 55-46 Southern Lakes Conference win against visiting Waterford Feb. 5.

Hall credited his 18-point performance at Delavan-Darien, where the Falcons won 83-68, for getting him into the rhythm.

“It all goes back to the Delavan game, that is where it started,” Hall said. “It is where I got my confidence back.”

Hall’s Friday night performance comes after the team learned they would be without 6-3 senior Jordan Easthon, who suffered a season-ending broken ankle at practice the night before.

The loss of Easthon will be difficult, but Hall noted the Falcons have a strong bench that is ready to come forward.

“It is going to be tough, he is a great player,” Hall said. “He was good on offense, too, but it is up to players on the bench to step it up.”

Westosha Central, first in SLC at 9-2 by one game (12-5 overall), overcame a 24-20 halftime to defeat the Wolverines.

“It was a big adjustment playing without Jordan,” said Falcons coach James Hyllberg. “It took us awhile to find our rhythm. We also got into early foul trouble that limited our production as well.”

However, Hyllberg acknowledged Hall as one of the primary reasons for Friday’s crucial win against the Wolverines.

“Ron has been playing well and has been getting his teammates involved,” Hyllberg said. “I’m most impressed with his assists and rebounds during this stretch.”

While the Falcons stayed in control of the SLC, Hyllberg said the team had difficulty containing Waterford guard Dyln Ross, who scored a team-leading 19 points for the Wolverines.

“We couldn’t stop their point guard. We allowed him to penetrate at will so we were forced to go to a zone,” Hyllberg said. “I thought we did a nice job of moving on the pass and slowing them down while we played zone.”

Westosha Central junior Tre Williams knocked in 10 points, including a 4-for-6 performance at the free throw line.

Nic Frederick chipped in nine points, with six from the 3-point line.

With the Falcons one game ahead in a tightly wound conference, Hyllberg and Hall both know it will take a collective effort to forge ahead in the last two games, noting the loss of Easthon and inevitable junior varsity call-ups.

“Losing Jordan is a huge loss. Other guys are going to have to fill that void,” Hyllberg said. “Jordan rebounds and finishes around the basket.”

“It will be fun to see who steps up and takes on that role, it will be a combination of guys,” Hyllberg said.

Hall believes in his coaching staff and squad of Falcons as the team looks ahead.

“We have a great coaching staff and I think the signs are there, even though we are missing one of our best players,” Hall said.

Waterford dropped to 5-6 in the SLC and 8-10 overall with the loss.
