With under a minute to go, and the score tied, Westosha Central junior Lindsey Kimpler finally had her moment at Elkhorn Friday.

The 5-foot-4 junior guard, who scored a game-high 17 points, buried a go-ahead 3-pointer to seal the Lady Falcons’ 47-45 Southern Lakes Conference win against the Elks.

“It felt really good to finally do something that I felt was effective,” Kimpler said. “It was the first time all season where I felt I helped my team.”

Along with 17 points, Kimpler had a team-leading five rebounds while collecting three steals and pitching in with three assists.

Westosha Central coach Jerod Boyd said Kimpler likely played her best game all season.

“Lindsey just kept shooting, which is what I tell her to do all the time,” Boyd said. “She stayed composed and played great defense all game.”

Composure was key for Kimpler and the Lady Falcons, noting they were rattled after halftime, down 24-22.

“It was the most important thing he said, you have to be composed and worry about your game,” Kimpler said. “Don’t worry about their game.”

Westosha Central started attacking the Elks zone to open the second half, which put the Lady Falcons ahead by as much as seven points.

“I thought we attacked their zone a little better to get up by six or seven,” Boyd said.

The Lady Falcons also received 11 points from sophomore Stephanie Dopuch, who went 3-for-5 from 3-point range, and had four rebounds.

Since her junior varsity call-up, Dopuch has accrued two double digit scoring performances, and came up one point shy in her varsity debut against Burlington Jan. 14.

Payton Christensen scored 12 points for Elkhorn, who dropped to 0-20 (0-13 SLC), with Riley Rand adding another 10.

Westosha Central improved to 3-10 in the SLC (4-17 overall).

Kimpler said after the game the Lady Falcons are better than what its record indicates, noting some of the players have progressed well throughout the season, and could have solid potential for next year.

“Our record doesn’t show hard work we put in,” Kimpler said. “And I think we are a great team and have a lot of potential.”
